Does the vomiting side effect of abilify go away? My son started taking abilify a couple of weeks ago. He has vomited every few days since starting. We know this is a side effect but haven't found any information as to whether it goes away. Anyone out there who has used abilify and had this side effect - does it subside or stay constant? We also have the same question about the dizziness. Thanks!
Jake B replied: "no you take that side effect to the grave....LOL no of course it goes away"
John Weelsen replied: "May be this is result of Overdose
Detailed Information about Abilify:
What happens if I overdose?
=====================
Seek emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medicine. Overdose symptoms may include drowsiness, vomiting, agitation, aggression, confusion, tremors, fast or slow heart rate, seizure (convulsions), trouble breathing, feeling light-headed, or fainting.
How you should take Abilify
====================
Take Abilify exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take the medication in larger amounts, or take it for longer than recommended by your doctor. Follow the directions on your pre ion label.
Do not take aripiprazole for longer than 6 weeks unless your doctor has told you to. Take each dose with a full glass of water.
Abilify can be taken with or without food.
Abilify is usually taken once a day. Follow your doctor 's instructions.
Measure the liquid form of Abilify with a special dose-measuring spoon or cup, not a regular table spoon. If you do not have a dose-measuring device, ask your pharmacist where you can get one.
To take aripiprazole orally disintegrating tablets (Abilify Discmelt):
Keep the tablet in its blister pack until you are ready to take the medicine. Open the package and peel back the foil from the tablet blister. Do not push a tablet through the foil or you may damage the tablet.
Using dry hands, remove the tablet and place it in your mouth. It will begin to dissolve right away.
Do not swallow the tablet whole. Allow it to dissolve in your mouth without chewing.
Swallow several times as the tablet dissolves. If desired, you may drink liquid to help swallow the dissolved tablet.
It is important to take Abilify regularly to get the most benefit.
To be sure this medication is helping your condition, your doctor will need to check your progress on a regular basis. It is important that you not miss any scheduled visits to your doctor.
Store Abilify tablets at room temperature away from moisture and heat.
Abilify oral solution should be stored in the refrigerator and can be used for up to 6 months after opening.
What you should avoid while taking Abilify.
================================
Abilify can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert.
Avoid getting up too fast from a sitting or lying position, or you may feel dizzy. Get up slowly and steady yourself to prevent a fall.
Avoid drinking alcohol, which can increase some of the side effects of Abilify.
Avoid becoming overheated or dehydrated. Drink plenty of fluids, especially in hot weather and during exercise. It is easier to become dangerously overheated and dehydrated while you are taking Abilify."
Andy replied: "I believe that these may be initial side effects that may go away. Give it another couple of weeks. If things don't improve then let the doctor know."
Is this a side effect of Abilify? Ok I have experienced hot flashes a lot lately and I have just started taking abilify. And NO there is no chance I have menopause I am way too young. I do know that I am having other side effects; such as increased urination. Please help! 10 points for best answer!

Andy replied: "It could be the Abilify. I've noticed that since I started Abilify I've had increased urination too. Just keep a check on it. I wouldn't be too alarmed but do let the doctor know. Best of luck."
Is sleeping a side effect of abilify? i just started my abilify 10mg today. i took it abt two hrs b4 i went to wrk. well abt two hrs into my wrk day i started getting extremley sleepy && had to leave wrk. i came home and slept all day!! is this a side effect of abilify??
DarkRose replied: "Common side effects:

So yes, sleepiness is a side effect.
Usually they will go away after a few weeks/months of taking them so give your body time to adjust. If excessive sleepiness persists then maybe ask your doctor to lessen your dosage or try a different medication."
canada_winnipeg_man replied: "Abilify is not for use in psychotic conditions that are related to dementia. Abilify has caused fatal heart attack and stroke in older adults with dementia-related conditions. Stop using Abilify and call your doctor at once if you have the following symptoms: fever with stiff muscles and rapid heart rate; uncontrolled muscle movements; symptoms that come on suddenly such as numbness or weakness, severe headache, and problems with vision, speech, or balance.
Abilify can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert. Avoid drinking alcohol, which can increase some of the side effects of Abilify.
Avoid using other medicines that make you sleepy (such as cold medicine, pain medication, muscle relaxers, and medicine for seizures, depression or anxiety).
They can add to sleepiness caused by Abilify. Tell your doctor if you regularly use any of these medicines.
Avoid becoming overheated or dehydrated. Drink plenty of fluids, especially in hot weather and during exercise. It is easier to become dangerously overheated and dehydrated while you are taking Abilify"
Is amnesia a side effect of taking Abilify? I am taking Abilify for psychotic symptoms and I've been really forgetful lately. Sometimes I even get made fun of at school for it. I forget where I am, what I was going to do, people's names, etc. It's getting worse, too. Personally I would like help from someone who is actually taking Abilify. Please, I need help.
bananafish6726 replied: "I take 10mg of Abilify per day and don't have any forgetfulness. But I used to take Zyprexa and I could barely remember my name and address. You might talk to your psychiatrist about the symptoms and possibly trying a different medication."
Andy replied: "It could be the medication. Medicine affects people in different ways. You may need a switch in medicine. Talk to the doctor. That's the best advice I can give. Best of luck..."
Anybody had this side effect with Abilify? I've been on 2.5 mg of Abilify for 3 months. I couldn't go to a higher dosage because the stuff made me so unpleasantly hyper/fatigued I couldn't drive or work. The anxiety's still killing me.
Now I'm having sexual side effects--among other things, my libido is gone! I don't see this listed anywhere as a side effect, but it started when I went to this dosage...it has to be the drug. Is this a side effect?
I don't tolerate medication very well, and have a hard time finding anything I can tolerate. I'm on Lamictal as well. I can already hear my doctor saying there's no way I could be having this side effect...
riptide_71 replied: "ohhh....I hated Abilify. It made me so hyper and anxious, I wanted to punch the wall. I had to go off it."
limousineorama replied: "well you are on a really low dose of abilify so there shouldnt be too many side effects. As far as those types of meds go, Abilify is one of the best for side effects and in regards to sexual side effects, abilify shouldnt cause any.
good luck"
Did you have this side-effect with Abilify? I didn't know what it was at first... I actaully thought it might have just been mania but then I read up on Abilify's side effects. It's called Akathisia- "an inner sense of restlessness or need to move". I find it unbarable so I stopped taking the drug. Did anyone else have this?
I've been on Lamictal twice. Doesn't help me. In fact I've been on over 40 psych meds. I'm considering ECT now. Either that or I guess I'll have to live with being nuts :) lol
nurse ratchet replied: "My husbands mom did. She was not quite right on that med. So, she then tried to commit suicide, they did weeks of Electro Shock Therapy and switced her to Geodon. She's actually doing well."
combackkidxxx replied: "hmm i've seen a lot of people on here asking about Abilify
and how it doesn't truly work for them
i think that's really weird, i don't think i've ever heard
of a medication that had a side effect like that.
you should definitely talk to your doc about Lamictal.
NO side effects, not even weight gain."
How to manage the side effects of abilify and welbutrin? I am diagnosed as ADD, Borderline Personality Disorder, and Clinically Depressed and am on Abilify and Welbutrin. Some side effects I've experienced are weight gain, extreme fatigue (sleeping 9-11 hours a night), and slight hair loss. Does anyone know how to manage these side effects while not going off the medicine completely? I've found it near impossible to lose weight while on these medicines especially.
Melody replied: "Talk to your prescribing doctor about this. They might be able to reduce the dosage(s) to help with the side effects but still take enough to control your psychological symptoms. Abilify is an atypical antipsychotic, which does have some serious side effects in the long run. You need to watch out for uncontrollable muscle movements, as these can be permanent, I've had these before when I took Haldol, it's called tardive dyskenesia, and it can be PERMANENT. So watch for that! Side effects really, really suck. I've taken antipsychotics before for Tourette's, but I couldn't tolerate them, they either put me to sleep or caused freaky reactions. Fatigue is a common side effect, and so is weight gain. You may need to just go on a diet. As for the rest, I have no idea. Your prescribing doctor should be able to help you with this."
Andy replied: "Speak with the doctor about the fatigue. He/she may be able to adjust the dosage or the timing of the meds for that. Diet and exercise are the first line of defense for medication weight gain. For antipsychotic (Abilify being an antispsychotic) weight gain, I've heard that you could add a medication called metformin (Glucophage) but I don't know how well it works as I've never tried it and I don't know if a doc would do this (look it up online; there should be articles on the combinations of antipsychotics and metformin). With the hair loss I don't know. For that, you may either have to deal with it or switch meds. I've never had that happen to me on the numerous medications I've been on for my bipolar disorder. I hope some of my info helps and I wish you best of luck in your treatment in the road ahead..."
ABILIFY side effects noticed? i have usually strong reactions to drugs of any sort and i'm taking a new medication ABILIFY and i'm experiencing the side-effects already such as the akasethia or however u spell it... i can't stop moving around and i can only stay in bed it seems like... also i can't stop fidgeting and my muscles r out of control... what can i do to stop this? r there any instant remedies because it has been a few days already... i took 1 30mg capsule on Friday and it's MOnday now and i'm still suffering here.... i can barely stand ... what can i do?
Jay W replied: "I am going to take a wild guess you have not talked to your doctor yet.
Akathisia and GI upset are the only common side effects to Abilify, and yes, it sounds like you may have akathisia--but then again, you may not. Akathisia is unpleasant but basically harmless, but other side effects may not be.
Call your doctor and he will most likely either decrease the dose or prescribe a beta-blocker, but he will also probably want to physically examine you to make sure it is not some other more dangerous type of reaction."
Pico replied: "I had that problem for the first 2-3 weeks of taking Abilify. It was terrible. I couldn't sit still or sleep but I also could barely stand up because of an overwhelming feeling that I had to sit down. I was up and down constantly. I kept joking that I had 'restless leg syndrome' but it really wasn't funny and my legs felt terrible. I felt so weak but I couldn't stop moving. I started on 5mg and went up to 15mg. I don't have the side effects anymore other than sleepiness which could be from the other meds I'm taking (Lexapro and Klonopin). There was nothing I could do about the side effects other than wait it out."
Is erectile dysfunction permanent when it is the side effect of a medication called Abilify? I have been taking Abilify for several years and during that time my sex drive has very slowly gone to nothing. I used to be very sexual, but now I suffer from a limp shrimp hook. I don't get excited about sex at all anymore. I look at porn and I really don't care. I fail to ejaculate and my erections are soft. I quit taking Abilify, but it has been several weeks now and I am beginning to wonder if the damage is permanent. Is it? Because now that I am off the Abilify I am seriously mentally disturbed without the help of the medication, and I just don't know what to do. I have a psychiatrist who doesn't listen to a damn thing I say and won't prescribe anything else, and when I called around I couldn't get in with another psychiatrist on my health insurance anywhere. Either they wouldn't accept the insurance or they weren't accepting new patients. Geesh, I am only 37! I feel like this shouldn't be happening to me. Erectile dysfunction is a known side effect of Abilify.
Greg replied: "You could try viagra but I will tell ya what, that stuff sucks. The side effects are terrible. Have you ever tried a sexual enhancer? I was in your situation, like I said, viagra was tried but it wasn't for me considering the side effects overwhelm the pleasures of it. I found this natural herbal enhancer and figured what the heck, if it's natural it must be great and plus it said no side effects. I tried it and after about two days of taking it I was just horny like a mad man. All the time, I have erections that want to stand straight up and the orgasms are to die for. The stuff was called vigrx plus and I saved on it at the time at hughs-reviews.com , You should check it out. I love the fact it's made from a researched blend of herbs that seem to do the trick for me atleast.
Good luck and I hope this helps."
what were your side effects to abilify? i just started taking it today, and do not feel anything, then again i still have geodon in my system, but i was changed today to this. do you take abilify and what were your side effects?
christie D replied: "i had no side affects but if you wan to know go to web md they they a place where you can look up your meds and find out the side affects good luck and take care"
Cazzy replied: "Sweaty palms,
Increased appetite and excessive weight gain in the short time of 2 months I gained 2 dress sizes.
Headaches and grogginess.
I no longer take it."
theanalyzer99 replied: "Hopefully your prescriber titrated you milligrams slowly and is watching for dangerous side effects that affect your nervous system (twitching, burning). Actually, this class of med has the least weight gain reported, only a few percent had reported that. But because our bodies are so different, each person has to monitor their own side effects. You can always call your pharmacist if you begin to feel something different (blurry vision is always a bad side effect) and usually you want to follow up with a call to the doctor the next day if it is nothing serious."
courage78 replied: "I'm on it and I have an eating disorder. There is no way I would take it if it caused me weight gain. I personally have no side effects."
MARK S replied: "i was on it for afew months i had only 1side effect my right hand started shaking uncontrollably it just worse so i stoped and was put on another med. good luck"
fiVe replied: "I've been on Abilify for a while now and I've never noticed any side effects. I took it to replace Geodon, too, because Geodon made me constantly nauseous."
lexi m replied: "Abilify made me very hungry and also agitated (a bit manic). But it was awesome for depression!
However, I currently take Geodon with Abilify and that works out very well. No weight issues (I'm actually losing weight and I only weigh 115 lbs) and no problems with mania or depression.
I actually have a bit of a problem with constipation, but it's manageable.
Geodon 40 mg (for mania)
Abilify 10 mg (for depression)
Lamictal 100 mg (additional stabilizer)
I was told Geodon and Abilify do the same thing-- but in my experience they affect me completely differently."
