I have really bad stomach gas i took antacid, tea, & changed my diet & nothing work. What do i do ? I've been having this stomach pain almost everyday for a year & some months. When i try to eat something it's takes me a long time to eat it, or sometimes i can't cause the gas is so bad. At night when I lay in bed I have gas, when i wake up in the morning i have it to. In the morning its worse. I went to the doctor for this and I was prescibed Prilosec for 6 months but i didn't work. A few months after i was prescibed Nexium for 1 month, it didn't work either. I've tooken Mylanta, Tums, alka-selzter, maalox, diffrent kinds of teas that supposedly works for gas, and nothing works. I changed my diet eating foods that contain more fiber & more fruits but i doesn't work either. I seened a specialist for this problem too, the doc performed tests for me but when the results came back it showed that nothing was wrong. I'm really fed up with this, it's interfering with my life & i don't know what else to do. Please if anyone has a solution to my problem please respond back.
IZ replied: "You probably have a buttload of allergies. Try papaya pills (aid in digestion) or Beano. Otherwise, start evaluating what gives you more gas and then eliminate it altogether. Try a nutritionist. Good luck!"
amber replied: "sounds like a horrible case of acid reflux or something possibly to do with the bile in the gallbladder
please get another doctor/opinion"
Nice replied: "The same exact situation with me. Except it was with constipation + flatulence. I tried everything and had so many tests that came back negative. The doctor's always said there was nothing wrong.
I decided to treat it naturally. I stopped eating anything foreign. No medications, no processed foods, etc. I tried to eat all organic. I drank water with lemon juice every morning to cleanse my body. I walked for 30 minutes 3 times a week.
I am much much better. I have some bad days, but rarely. Eating all natural food was easier to digest.
Don't over do the fiber. Fiber gives you gas."
swifty_champleone replied: "Honestly, you should drink a glass of warm water and baking soda. Lie on your stomach for while and try to pass gas. If that doesn't work, you should go to the doctor."
how will Prilosec affect my diet? I am supposed to start taking Prilosec how will it affect my appetite or my stomach capacity?
imaginarius92 replied: "it shouldnt affect your diet. but it mite have different effects on different ppl"
KIZIAH replied: "It won't. It will cut down on stomach acid and will probably make your stomach feel better which in turn might make you brave enough to eat again.
However, some people eat when they have an ulcer confusing the stomach pain with hunger, so getting rid of the ulcer might make you eat less. If you're worried that it will cause you to gain weight, don't worry. It won't."
Doctor J replied: "Hey Lance Corporal. Thanks for your service!
Acid inhibitors such as Prilosec have serious side effects associated with them. They impair digestion which leads to malabsorption of minerals such as calcium, zinc, etc. They also impair absorption of some vitamins such as B12.
Additionally, researchers use these drugs to induce bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine for research purposes. Think about what that means. Acid inhibiting drugs lead to (in 100% of patients) a chronic bacterial 'infection' in your small intestine. These infections/overgrowth of bacteria can have nasty effects on your health.
It may be better to find a doc that will work with you to find and fix the cause of your acid reflux/heart burn (I am assuming that is why you 'need' Prilosec). These doctors are relatively rare and usually are trained in the field of 'functional medicine'. Interesting that most docs do not identify and treat the cause of the abnormal function (functional medicine), rather, they just precsribe a symptom masking drug that may lead to even more problems for the patient.
Best wishes and good luck.
P.S. You may have difficulty finding a good doc to help you so you may need to educate yourself on this issue. Sherry Rogers, M.D. has written an excellent book on this topic called "No More Heartburn". It is available at Amazon.com. I highly recommend this book - buy two and give one to your doctor!"
Danielle P replied: "I started taking Prilosec by pre ion over 7 years ago. I had tried everything else the doctor had in his arsenal. I still take it. It will help your stomach calm down, less irritation, and probably help with your swallowing ability. Your appetite probably won't change. Your stomach will hold the same amount, just you won't hurt or have acid back up your throat. This drug helped me get my life back to normal! Good luck"
Anyone who has or had a stomach ulcer? I have peptic ulcers. They are hurting me so badly that I can't go to work, I'm affraid to eat, and I don't know what to do for relief. I am taking Nexium and Prilosec and chewing antacids and drinking mylanta. But nothing seems to be working. I have kept with the mild/bland diet that the dr gave me and I still have severe stomach pain after every meal, and while I'm laying down at night. Anyone have an ideas on how to manage this pain? I have gone to the doctor and all they did was increase the dosage on the nexium and prilosec. What else can I do?
l.malbrue replied: "Hi, I suffer from ulcers, I take pre ion Tagamet 400 mg twice a day.
Also (very important) I take two tablespoons of "Slippery Elm" in a powder form (mix it with juice) prescribed by a holistic Dr.
WORKS WONDERS :)"

What surgeries and treatments are available to people suffering from the deadly acid reflux disease? I have this horrible life changing disease. My stomach can't take it anymore, and Prilosec OTC is starting to suck. It doesn't work like it used to.
I know that exercise help, diet, etc.
I want to know more about what surgeries are available.
Wendy V replied: "There is a procedure performed usually laproscopically called a Nissen Fundoplication.
It can either be a full or partial wrap.
It is not stomach stapling.
They take the top part of the stomach called the fundus and wrap it around the bottom of the oesphagus called the cardiac sphincter and pull it tight.
This stops stomach acid leaving your stomach and burning your oesphagus. It does what the sphincter is supposed to do.
It works extremely well.
Recovery time varies but is usually around two weeks for laproscopic surgery.
Reflux is only deadly if it is severe and over a long period of time as it causes errosion of the lining of the oesphagus and can cause ulceration and cancer. But that is extreme.
Worrying will make it worse."

Gastritis and Prilosec question!!!!!! Please HELP!? I am 22 and female. After 2 months of random stomach problems (pain, nausea with no vomitting, etc.) I was recently (2 weeks ago) diagnosed with Gastritis via Upper GI endoscopy (results are still out if it is caused by H. Pylori bacteria). I was put on Prilosec (20 mg) daily. I have completed 2 weeks of it already, and I DON'T FEEL BETTER. I still have "attacks" of the gnawing stomach pain that keep me laid up for a day or so. Has anyone had a similar experience? Any advice? Should it be taking this long?
And before you suggest it, I have already changed my diet to cut out all caffeine, coffee, tea, soda, fatty or fried foods, sugary foods, and acidic (tomatoes, etc) foods. And I get a good amount of exercise.
Also, I am open to the fact it might be stress-induced, what do you do for that (and don't say cheap breathing techniques, I need something better than that.)
THANKS!
And for the 100th time, I am POSITIVE I'm not pregnant.
I am mildly lactose intolerant, so I do avoid those foods, and I am not allergic to any other foods.
Dr. Deepak Sharma replied: "you should try homeopathic medication as possible it will cre all ur problem with out any diet restriction

daisyides replied: "The most common food allergies are dairy and gluten (wheat). Ask your doctor to test you for lactose intolerance, and try eliminating these from your diet for a few days to see if it helps. Wheat is in almost everything that is in a package...avoid foods that are packaged, esp with labels that have lots of ingredients on them.

Stomach, Back, SCARED... Need Help!? Ok. yesterday doc palpated my stomach... she said, "IF, there is a gallbladder problem, it is very minor, and you should be able to help it with a diet chenge... but it sounds like it's your gallbladder." She then said that because I cannot afford all the many tests I need done, that she cannot tell me for sure because she has no proof... and that makes perfect sense. What I want to know is that if she can palpate my stomach and it does not hurt, does that mean I could still have a gallbladder problem? I was having off and on burning and stinging sensations in that area,... sometimes they were there for longer periods of time, and I was very nautious for about a week as well as horrible bloated with severe heart burn... however, I took Prilosec for a few days and have since changed my diet to a very healthy blan diet and I do feel better. The bloating is gone, the nausia isn't that bad anymore and the heartburn is completely gone. My back does ache but it does not hurt. In other words, it aches like I have been sitting or lying for too long which I have,.. but it does not send sharp shooting pains anywhere. So could it be this is not a gallbladder problem but rather some really bad indigestion or gastritis.... I'm not looking for a diagnosis online... just a possibility of what could be going on considering it does not hurt when she palpates. There is a tender spot in that region but it does not hurt with pressing or palpating.
gregyamkingbrown replied: "You may be right.
Since you've changed your diet and you are noticing improvement, that's a good sign.
I like this guy for health advice:"
Brittni M replied: "I am not an expert but do consider myself experienced with gallbladder problems. I had gallbladder problems for over a year, I just had it removed about 2 weeks ago. I didn't have tenderness, just internal symptoms such as vomiting, alternating diarrhea and constipation, etc. A urinalysis will not show anything having to do with your gallbladder. I finally got correctly diagnosed after an ultrasound and a special test using radiation. Maybe your doctor is checking for something else with the urinalysis but your symptoms sound a little familiar so if they keep bothering you, don't let it go. I suffered for over a year with a misdiagnosis. Good luck!
By the way, I answered your other question regarding the same thing with the same answer."
hippytreehugger4ever replied: "I had the same problems with my gallbladder. If you feel nauseous, dull pain between your shoulder blades, and sharp pains where your gallbladder is then that's probably what it is. If you have gallstones, then you'll probably have to have it removed."
Stomach issues please help? About a year ago I started having issues with acid reflux so the doctor recommended Prilosec OTC. Prilosec worked for a little bit then my symptoms got worse so then the doctor gave me a 6 month pre ion of Prevacid (that pre ion ran out last Wednesday). So I decided that I would try to go without Prevacid. When I started having acid reflux issues I changed my diet (I only eat a low fat diet now). I feel that changing my diet made a huge difference.
Last week I came down with bronchitis and I went to the doctor and the doctor gave me a pre ion for my bronchitis. He gave me 250mg Azithromycin Pak (enough for 6 days) and a pre ion for 100mg of Benzonatate. The pre ions seemed to be working and helping then yesterday I started feeling nauseous. So I looked at the leaflet from the pharmacist for the pre ion that the doctor prescribed. One of the side effects for the Azithromycin is nausea. So I don't know if the azithromycin caused that or if my acid reflux is rearing its ugly head again.
Also with the nausea I get this horrible taste in my mouth. When I woke up this morning I felt great no nausea. But then I started having the horrible taste in my mouth again.
A few months ago my husband tried to get me to go see a gastrointerologist but I told my husband that I didn't need to go. Even before I started taking the azithromycin for my bronchitis I would sometimes experience nausea. Sometimes I wander if I have some other stomach related issue. Could that be? If so what could it be?
So my question is what could the nausea be caused from? What other stomach related issues could cause this nausea (because I'm starting to think that maybe I don't have acid reflux)? Should I see a gastrointerologist?
Lady Silver Fox replied: "You sound similar to a young version of me. I was diagnosed with IBS years ago and the meds only reduced the symptoms. I went to a low fat, high fiber diets and that helped. Lately, I've adopted an even more healthy lifestyle. Well, I'm working on it! The good news is that I've stopped taking librax *and* axid. My goal is to detox to the point that I can stop all prescribed meds except for occasional antibiotics as might be needed for severe infection."
RedStickChick replied: "Wait a week or two after you finish the antibiotics. Antibiotics are known for causing nausea. Also, they can sometimes cause a metal taste in your mouth. If you are continuing to have stomach issues after discontinuing the medication, then you should see a physician. Good luck."
Mysterious Instant Stomach Troubles Going to be as brief as possible: 21, male, healthy. Large build 230, 6'2. Drank wine a bit consistently for 5-6 months, no problems. Drank other hard liquor in the past, no problems. Tried Gin on June 6th, half a bottle (Seagram's Extra Dry mixed with lemon juice and ginger ale..I don't usually mix, was doing so for fun). Immediately noticed I had to keep taking deep breaths/out of breath sensation, stopped. Not sure if the Japanese food (sushi etc.) could've had an impact. Drank Jack Daniels and rot gut vodka before, so it was not a matter of tolerance or alcohol exposure.
Next day woke up to a feeling below the throat, felt like a constant need to cough. Went to the doctor...EKG, Chest X-Ray, Barium Swallow, Spirometer/Flow Meter (lung test), Gallbladder Liver scan, all negative. Endoscopy showed a very very small 3-4 cm sliding hiatal hernia, deemed asymptomatic (does not produce symptoms) as it was so small it didn't even show on the Barium Swallow X-ray. Endoscopy showed no irritation, irregularities or inflammation. Allergy tests showed nothing, Clarinex did nothing.
Symptoms are: Constant cough/irritation between collar bones, murky/powdery stools (as if you were to flush powder from the bottom of the toilet bowl and it billows up), sinus congestion, excessive burping, extreme fatigue, minor heart palpitations, yellow/white coated tongue, hurts to take a deep breath. Spaced out/tired after eating, worse than the "after turkey meal feeling". Excessive salivation/sweet tasting salivation. Hear an intermittent sound like gas escaping through my esophagus to my neck when I lie down. No heartburn whatsoever. Odd sour taste at back of mouth.
No history of any problems, no history of hypochondria, not psychological (Ativan and other sedatives did nothing). Antibiotics did nothing.
A homeopath suggested Nux Vomica, did nothing but calm me mentally.
Acid reflux/GERD was suggested, took Prilosec, Zantac, Pepcid AC, no effect. Moved to PPI's (strongest stuff they got), Protonix/Aciphex/Zegerid, did nothing.
It has been 2 months, the symptoms persist despite diet changes. Suggestions regarding a decrease in weight were made. Factors of environment include mold under my water bed that has grown over the years due to frequent popping of the tubes. A plan to replace the bed is underway. It has been suggested that the mold is causing this, or perhaps a Candida Albicans yeast overgrowth, however, the reaction to the Gin was sudden, instant, and very acute. I felt no symptoms whatsoever prior to consumption.
5 doctors, a gastroenterologist, a pulmonary specialist, 10 health coach's/nurses from the insurance company, a renowned medical researcher, and a famous health expert who exposed a pharmaceutical scam had no clue whatsoever, and were completely baffled.
I have gotten some guidance from a Chinese medicine woman/acupuncturist and am undergoing treatment through TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine).
Nevertheless, I am asking for your opinions. Do not tell me I have "GERD" or "acid reflux disease", those ailments are not diseases, and my symptoms/tests defy such a diagnosis. I am more knowledgeable about Acid Reflux/GERD than most doctors at this point, and I know I don't have it. I know every test used to detect it, and every "health tip" recommended for it, so don't waste my time or yours by spamming it.
I am looking for alternative causes.
Thank you

izabel replied: "I am in no way a medical professional, but I have to respond because I have twice in my life had conditions that could not be diagnosed. Both eventually were, but what a horror show until then.
My first thought on reading as far as your instant reaction to the gin potion was allergy. Short of a pre-existing condition, I can't think of anything, other than a poison, that could act that fast.
As I read further, I was going to mention mold but then you did. Mold is insidious. Mold can cause hundreds of nasty symptoms. That you had been sleeping on it for god knows how long means that you were breathing it in all that time even though you didn't know it was there. I don't know if there is a medical specialty in mycology but it might be a place to start.
Also, consider that what's going on may have been caused by more than one condition or more than one allergen or mold or ... If the gin event was an allergy, maybe it triggered nasty mold spores that had been hidden in your larynx.. I mean, I'm just throwing out ideas here, but it could be two or three different maladies.
In any case, don't give up. There is a doctor who knows what it is and has at least an idea how to cure it.
Good luck."
diet help? Okay, so I used to be really skinny because i've had a stomach acid condition since about 7th grade. Just recently I got put on Prilosec and it's helped so much.. Problem is, i've gained about 10 lbs since i've been on it. Which is about 2 months now or so. I don't want to cut back my medication because, i'm afraid my stomach will begin hurting again if I do. So.. Is there certain things i could eat that could maybe speed up my metabolism or just healthy food that could help me drow a few?

I Need help bad! Stomach problems for a long time.? For the past couple of months I have been having pretty bad pain directly under my rib cage. Most of the time the pain is directly in the middle under my sternum and on my left side under the rib, and occasionally it is on my right side. It is a sharp pain. I have seen the doctor, gotten blood work, upper GI, ultrasound and endoscopy and they have found nothing. I have been on Prilosec for about a month and occasionally I have heart burn and take Tums for it. The Tums take care of the heart burn but does not help with the sharp pain below the rib cage. This pain comes and goes through out the day and lasts for different lengths of time. I have been eating a very bland diet with little fat or acid for a few weeks but nothing seems to help. The pain in the middle under my sternum is especially bad if I eat to much of anything. It is painful to lie flat on my back so I have pillows propping my upper body up while I sleep.
Today things are especially bad. I have felt like I might vomit most of the day, and I have burning feeling that is lower, like around my belly button and it is non responsive to tums. And this is all on top of the usual pain below the rib cage in the middle and on my right side.
Some background on me. I am 21, I do not drink or smoke at all and I have always eaten fairly well. I weight 130lbs so I am pretty thin but I get plenty to eat, and I have never regularly eaten very fatty foods and always a lot of fruits and vegetables.
Does anyone have any ideas what this could be. I have another doctors appointment soon but so far doctors have not helped.
sprinkles*** replied: "hmmm if i were you i would visit a nutritionist if you're having so much trouble with food. an underlying food allergy or intolerance may be the problem and although you're eating a bland diet you may still be eating something that's giving your trouble. for example my sister cannot eat oinions as they make her really bloated and sore even though they are a vegetable and a healthy food. for the moment cutting down on irritants like sugar, caffeine and alcohol may also be a good idea to see if it has any effect (if you haven't done this already).
i get pains in my chest (the left side) when i have low blood sugar, and also a funny burning feeling in my sternum. it used to give me anxiety and panic until i realised what was happening. it's called hypoglycemia, you may like to look it up in case it applies to you. it's very easy to solve by just eating a diet that keeps your blood sugars as stable as possible."
Dee D replied: "Just wondering how your bowel movements are? When you have had many tests and they all come back normal, I am betting you have something called irritable bowel syndrome. I am not diagnosing you. Maybe check out the symptoms and see if they fit your de ion."
