About Side Effects Of Bactrim Medication in Questions
I was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection, and I was prescribed Bactrim. Any side effects with this drug The pre ion is Bactrim Double Strength twice a day for 3 days. I am scared to take medication, I don't even take aspirin for a headache, so I was just wondering if this drug has alot of side effects.

Tiamat replied: "Yes, there are side effects, some serious, though most people are fine with this drug. Like everything, though, it is good to be watchful and immediately report anything weird to your doc. "

bebenceto replied: "i don't know. for mine i had to drink a lot of cranberry juice"

buffoon replied: "Try "Drug Digest" on the internet."

irishfox2 replied: "I am not a doc and this is not medical advice. Now that that info is out there, I'll tell ya what I did. I had a UTI recently also and I went to Walmart... bought Super Concentrated Cranberry fruit 1680 mg plus vitamin C in the vitamin section of course. The UTI was gone in 3 days. I took 3 capsules 3 times a day.. normal dose is about 2 caps 3 times a day....symptoms subsided the first day, even better the second, gone the 3rd. It's a natural cure. I hope you feel better soon. :) Oh and if you are prone to these infections like many others, you can take cranberry regularly to prevent them too. You can also drink cranapple juice. It really does work."

jasomsaso replied: "Common side effects are: Increased sun sensitivity. Rashes. Upset stomach. Rare but serious side effects include destruction of red blood cells and severe skin rashes."

Bactrim Nasty Side Effects or Something Else/Help? hi all. hope you can help me. i'm a pretty healthy 17 year old female, i'm not sexually active and i don't suffer from any chronic conditions (diabetes, etc.). all the doctors say i'm really healthy. i DO however, suffer from anxiety and heart palpitations BECAUSE of my anxiety. but i have been feeling REALLY REALLY sick ever since i started taking this medication called Bactrim DS for a UTI. here's my story: about 2 days ago, i went to go see my doctor cause i had symptoms of a UTI (urinary tract infection), and at the time i was still sick from this nasty virus going around in my school, but i was feeling better. she prescribed bactrim DS (double strength) for me, but without telling me the acual results of the urinalysis, so i just took it. i figured, she's the doctor, she knows what's best. but the first night i took the medicine, i felt sick to my stomach within the next hour or two. i also have this extremely horrible, disgusting sick feeling, which i can't even describe. it's absolutely dreadful. i just feel so gross and nauseous all the time. i suspected it was my medicine, so i called the doc and told her, and she said to stop taking the medication. plus i found out then that i really didn't have a UTI in the first place. however, i did find out that they found something in the PAP smear i had about a month ago. nothing cancerous, just some inflammation. i have to get another one in the summer. my doc said i should feel better in a day or two, if not i should come back and see her. and i have just stopped taking Bactrim today, but i have 2 days worth of that stuff in my system. but i'm scared cause i never felt like this before, and it worries me. it's awful. has this ever happened to anyone else? feeling sick from Bactrim? i'm also worried that it might not be the medicine that's making me sick, but something else. i hope not. should i just give it some time to get better? can anyone help? any thoughs/advice is extremely helpful! <3 thank you so much! did you mean "clostridium difficile"?

Maryn Bittner replied: "I'm not at my home computer (darned backdoor trojan virus!) so I can't copy and paste. It sounds to me like you might be having a c. Dif reaction to the two days of antibiotics, if your feelings of illness are limited to the digestive tract. What happens is the powerful antibiotic kills the good-guy bacteria, allowing the few surviving bad guys to run rampant, among them the c. Differ-something. The main symptoms are abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, gas, and mucus discharge. If those are your symptoms, call you doctor back and tell her you think you're having a c. Dif reaction. There are treatments which clear it up quickly."

Ian MacArthur replied: "You do *not* have clostridium difficile. It would take much longer for the antibiotic to kill off the good bacteria and cause the symptoms of a C. diff infection (you had your initial symptoms within 1-2 hours). Plus, you would have profuse watery diarrhea. The symptoms could definitely be caused by the Bactrim, since some people can not tolerate sulfa drugs. Now that you have stopped taking the drug, it should pass out of your system pretty quickly. Make sure you drink plenty of fluids. If you do not feel better soon, though, let your doctor know."

celestial_babe4u2 replied: "It is a Sulfa based drug. So most skin reactions come from being allergic to Sulfa. Check it out at. or"

ang2164 replied: "it is not uncommon for someone to develop an allergy to an antibiotic, actually it does happen quite frequently, see ur doctor and ask him to prescribe somthing different, tell him about ur rash and he'll help u out. good luck"

Lani replied: "It can cause a skin rash, especially if you have been in sunlight. See more details on the Mayo Clinic's website ... link below."

If I stop my medication how long will it take for my side effects to go away? I started an antibiotic for my acne a week and a half ago. It's called Bectrim or Bactrim or something. About a week later I developed head splitting headaches that were 24 hours a day, the only time they go away is if I take tylenol, and then they come back as soon as it wears off. I had nausea in the morning, until about 9am, and last night I was up vomiting from 3am to 5am. My mother says that I was prescribed this same medication for my earaches when I was younger and it made me vomit also. I'm just wondering why it's getting worse, and why only nausea during the morning, when I'm taking it twice a day? I'm going out of my mind with these headaches, I can barely think. I would question pregnancy, but I take my birth control religiously and I think the starting a new med thing is more than a coincidence. I didn't take any of the antibiotic today. How long before the side effects go away? Has anyone experienced this with an antibiotic? I want to know how long it will take because I'm only going to take a Prego Test if the effects don't stop from stopping the antibiotic. I don't want to spend $$ for nothing, and a few days won't make a difference. And I haven't had sex while taking the antibiotic--I've gone back to school for summer semester. But there's always that 1%...but the meds have made me sick when I was little

Wendy replied: "Check for pregnancy anyway. Antibiotics can affect the effectiveness of your birth control pills. You should always use condoms as back up when on antibiotics"

Bactrim and Alcohol... Dangerous? Hello I'm a little concerned because I am taking the medication Bactrim for my acne. I was recently reading about the harmful side effects of Bactrim and Alcohol combined. I took my medication this this morning at around 11 am and I had one 16oz. beer and around 5:30 pm. (yes I am over 21 and no I did not drive either) So I was just wondering if this is a big problem? I figured probably not because I had such little alcohol in my system 6 hours after I took Bactrim. Immediate Response would be appreciated.

Sarah.Laurette replied: "Yes, most or if not all medications should not be consumed with alcohol. There are chemical reactions that can take place and lots of side effects. Beer probably wouldn't be too bad since you said it was just a little."

Scary Batrim Side Effects/Feeling Very Weird & Sick? hi all. hope you can help me. i'm a pretty healthy 17 year old female, i'm not sexually active and i don't suffer from any chronic conditions (diabetes, etc.). the docs all sya i'm really healthy. i Do however, suffer from anxiety. but i have been feeling REALLY REALLY sick ever since i started taking this medication called Bactrim DS for a UTI. here's my story: about 2 days ago, i went to go see my doctor cause i had symptoms of a UTI (urinary tract infection), and at the time i was still sick from this nasty virus going around in my school, but i was feeling better. she prescribed bactrim DS (double strength) for me, but without telling me the acual results of the urinalysis, so i just took it. i figured, she's the doctor, she knows what's best. but the first night i took the medicine, i felt sick to my stomach within the next hour or two. i also have this extremely horrible, disgusting sick feeling, which i can't even describe. it's absolutely dreadful. i just feel so gross and nauseous all the time. i suspected it was my medicine, so i called the doc and told her, and she said to stop taking the medication. plus i found out then that i really didn't have a UTI in the first place. however, i did find out that they found something in the PAP smear i had about a month ago. nothing cancerous, just some inflammation. i have to get another one in the summer. my doc said i should feel better in a day or two, if not i should come back and see her. and i have just stopped taking Bactrim today, but i have 2 days worth of that stuff in my system. but i'm scared cause i never felt like this before, and it worries me. it's awful. has this ever happened to anyone else? feeling sick from Bactrim? i'm also worried that it might not be the medicine that's making me sick, but something else. i hope not. can anyone help? any thoughs/advice is extremely helpful! <3 i'm sorry this is so long, by the way, lol! thanks for the advice! yeah, i hope i start to feel better soon! :]

Proud American replied: "You should start to feel better, This medication should be out of your system within 24 hours. Your anxiety over it can also cause these symptoms. Bactrim is hard on your stomach and is best taken with food. Maybe you didn;t eat enough to take care of it. If you're not feeling better by tomorrow, yo ushould go back in to see your doctor Good luck"

Bactrim problems? I was prescribes Bactrim for 7 days about a month ago. I was told that I was allergic as a kid to Septra, as I got hives, but I took other Sulfa drugs with no issues so they prescribed it to me as I had a UTI resistant to Cipro with kidney stones. Now I had no side effects while taikng the Bactrim but I read the info provided by the pharmacy that stated I could have stomach and digestive problems up to three monthsafter taking the medication. I have developed cramping and bloating and gas, no diarhea though and I am concerned that this is from the Bactrim. I am not in severe pain but I am uncomfortable and bloated in my lower abdomen. Anyone have any advice. Could this be the Bactrim? I don't want to go to the doctor fo rsomething I could treat ith an OTC but it states not to treat it if it is the Bactrim. Any help anyone? or anyone have an experience like this?

drankurbhardwaj replied: "you do not have side effects after 1 month of intake. it should have come up during your intake."

Will Bactrim affect someone allegic to Sulfur? I have moderate acne and have been searching for medications that may cure it, I have heard tons about Accutane and I was convinced I needed it, but now I am afraid because of negative side effects it has on the body Anyway I have heard nothing but positive reviews about Bactrim for acne, However I read on a website that individuals who are allergic to Sulfur should not take Bactrim I am not sure either way if I am allergic to sulfur, but a long while ago I used Sulfur 8 medicated shampoo and had a severe allergic reaction on my scalp from using it. I wanted to know if anyone could help me figure out if sulfur 8 is the same sulfur medication as Bactrim ? or If it could have been one of the ingredients listed in the shampoo that caused my allergic reaction and not Sulfur itself ? Ingridients: Sulfur 8 Medicated Shampoo Active Ingredient: Triclosan (0.2%). Other Ingredients: Water, TEA-Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Lauramide DEA, Cocoamphoacetate, Fragrance, Disodium EDTA, Sodium Chloride, Yellow 6, Blue 1. or if that's just what they named the shampooed, does it really contain sulfur at all ? I really want to give Bactrim a try for curing my acne, no I don't have health insurance so I have to know what I want when I pay out of pocket to see a dermatologist

Betty replied: "you should call a pharmacist or dr. but to my knowledge Bactrim is a sulfa drug and should not be taken by someone who is allergic."

Should I continue taking Bactrim for my acne? I've been taking bactrim for approximately two days now and have not felt any side effects whatsoever. My acne is fading very quickly and I have not recieved any new pimples its really remarkable. The problem is this drug seems to affect a huge portion of the users its subscribed to (see here:). While I want clear skin it doesn't seem worth the tremendous risks my questions are: Should I stay on this medication? and How dangerous is it really? Thank you

does anyone have any information to share on the antibiotic bactrim septra, sulphameth/trim, cotrimoxazole? I have become increasing interested in this antibiotic recently after a horrible allergic reaction to it, after searching the web I have found out a more information about this drug. It is not used in the uk anymore to treat uti, sinus or ear infections for more information please look up the investigation lead by BRIAN DEER. Also look up Medications.com and type in sulpameth side effects. Please contact me if you would like to share your story with me.I would be very interested to know and aquire more information about this drug

lynwin552 replied: "I'm allergic to this as well. My reaction was an itchy rash and "drug fever". I had taken Septra a couple of times before, then suddenly had this allergic reacion to it. Needless to say, I don't take anything with either sulfa or trimoxazole anymore."

ScubaGuy replied: "Having prescribed a needlessly-dangerous pharmaceutical for most of their professional careers, many British family doctors were outraged by the challenge over Bactrim - Septrin - Septra - Septran. Many felt their patients were alarmed unfairly by Brian Deer's reports - stressing side-effects, rather than typical patients' experiences. In due course, they changed their minds. Bactrim and other sulfa drugs are linked with Stevens Johnson Syndrome. Sulfamethoxazole, an ingredient in Bactrim, is one of a group of drugs called sulfonamides, which prevent the growth of bacteria in the body and which can trigger the life-threatening and devastating Stevens-Johnson syndrome. Wellcome, the maker of trimethoprim, and Hoffman-La Roche, the maker of sulphamethoxazole, combined their drugs in the 1960s to make the drug known as Bactrim. As cases of Bactrim-induced Stevens Johnson Syndrome are reported, it is becoming one of the top drugs associated with the potentially life-threatening disease. Hundreds of people are realizing that they are not alone in their experience with this dangerous drug. You can contact some lawyers who are going after the drug companies at this web stite Good luck"

ckm1956 replied: "Bactrim is commonly (and safely) used in the US. Some people are allergic to "sulfa" drugs, much like many other drugs. It is the FIRST choice for a number of infections, including some caused by community acquired strains of MRSA. One answer referred to "needlessly prescribing". The answerer sounds like they are either an attorney or work for one. Reminds me of the old joke, "What's the difference between a lawyer and a catfish....""
