What would cause your blood pressure to go from high to very low in the same day? I am on high blood pressure medicine but recently started taking topamax for tremors. My blood pressure in one day ranged from 148/94 to 94/76 then to 126/80. I am a little concerned about these flucuations

Emily replied: "stress or anger may cause your pressure to go up. if you are stressed, try to calm yourself down and see if that helps. if you aren't stressed or it doesn't help, go to the doctors. you should probably go to the doctors anyways. it may also be the medications reacting but it may not be. doctors is the best (and safest) bet."

Bud replied: "What you are experiencing is relatively normal. Blood pressure can vary that much during the day. Your level of physical activity, emotional state or what you eat or drink can cause these fluctuations. The only reading that might be a cause for concern is the 94/76. A systolic pressure of 94 is low. Only in rare instances can topamax cause low blood pressure. Call your pharmacist and tell them what you are taking for blood pressure medication (type of med and amount) and ask if there could be a drug interaction taking place with the topamax. The pharmacist would probably be able to tell you whereas your doctor may not. Also see: "

m b replied: "I am a paramedic and the most common cause for this in people on BP meds is the person not taking the med at the same time every day or missing a dose. The dose might need to be adjusted, med changed. If you are using a home BP machine, get a new one (they are cheep and need replacing sometimes. She could be dehydrated and in need of more fluids daily. What ever the reason she should take BP a couple times a day for a couple weeks, recording times and results, and make an appointment with her primary DR. How long does it take Topamax for Migraines to work? I started taking Topamax then end of April and take 100 mgs a day for migraines, and take maxalt which I'm going through them like at least one a day still, how long does it take the Topamax to work? The Topamax makes me so nervous, and I'm still having Migraines, but, not 24/7 versus before. I can't sleep, I'm snapping at people all the time, I feel like I'm jumping out of my skin, but my blood pressure is fine. The dr.s know, and I have an appointment with the neuro Friday, but, anyone know how long it takes to level out and work, and if so, when do these symtoms go away? The med, Topamax is driving me about as nuts as the migraines...anyone have any views on this or experiences like these on this med, my dr. says it's different with everyone, and wasn't surprised, and said it will go away...to try it...but, I'm driving everyone away on it...any suggestions to calm my nerves down, anything?

hot_singing_babe replied: "i agree the topamax usually only takes about 7-10 days to start working. it sounds like your migraines might be anxiety related. try asking your neurologist about an antidepressants such as amitriptyline -- a tricyclic antidepressant which has been shown to be effective in preventing migraines -- or an ssri (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor). taking these medications don't mean that you have an anxiety disorder, but rather that, the way that the serotonin is being released and picked back up in the brain isn't working. your brain is releasing the right amount of serotonin but when it comes to the parts of your brain that are suppose to collect it, well they fall behind on the job. this results in a big puddle of serotonin in your brain, and can cause the symptoms you're experiencing."

What's wrong with me?! I went to the ER on Friday and after blood work, they said I had hypokalemia!? They started freaking out because they level was 2.2. The reason I went in the first place is because I was so tired all the time, my hair has been falling out in large clumps, I've had diarrhea more often than not over the past 3-4 years, and I have these weird red lesion looking things starting to appear at random places on my body. Plus, I went to go donate blood at Carter and they told me I couldn't because my iron was too low. They've told me this twice over the past 4 months. My husband cooks all of our meals and we are eating the same as we have always been. We don't eat junk food. We eat relatively healthy. I have even been taking supplements because of the iron thing. I have high blood pressure and Generalized Anxiety. I take HCTZ, Inderal, Zoloft, Seroquel, Topamax, and sometimes Klonopin. They took me off the HCTZ. Now since I've been home, I have diarrhea like 6 or more times a day. I'm worried my K+ will drop to a dangerous level before I go in again! I've had my thyroid checked about 30 times...literally. They got it up to 3.5 before they let me out of the hospital. I go back on Friday.

yachadhoo replied: "A potassium of 2.2 is dangerous..especially if you are having diarrhea...which can lower it even more. It might have been due to the HCTZ (likely), so stopping this helps. But it may not be due to the HCTZ...and could contiue to drop. Either way, you need it rechecked ASAP to make sure it is coming back up... And you may need to go back to the hospital to be admitted to correct this level and get a further workup for what is going on...! Make sure you get your thyroid checked, too (a TSH)...to make sure you are not hyperthyroid... I hope everything works out for you and that you start feeling better! -"

Ever been on Topamax?? ? Ever been on Topamax? Hey my name is Robin and I am 19 years old. I started taking topamax about a month days ago. I have high blood pressure which causes me to have servere migraines I started out taking 25 mg a day , and now I am only taking 50mg a day. But I have noticed quite a few sideffects. -tingling in bottom of both of my feet -tremors -all soda's taste flat(Mt.Dew taste like Beer lol) -cheese(which i love) is now nasty -a weird taste in my mouth that I can't put a name too -i sometimes feel very distant..almost a drunk feeling.. -I am very forgetful -and tend to get very moody..one minute I am happy go lucky and the next I am a total monster.. -a little word recall here and there..but its not that bad. I know that one of the side affects of topamax is missed period. But since I was put on it, my period has been weird. I have had my period for about 23 day now. Serverely, and it isn't showing any signs of going away. Is this a normal side affect or is there something I should be concerend about? I know Topamax cause it to skip, and it messes with your hormones, but is this normal?? ...are any of these normal..I have read about some of them, but they all seem kinda weird to me. -Robin

Can someone get me a good diet and exercise plan? Bare facts: I'm 15. I'm 5'5". I'm 246. My BMI is around 41. I'm obese. I know this. I need to lose weight. Cornsilk P replied: "You can start off simple. Walk 30 minutes a day at least 5 days a week and start to cut the 'extra's out of your diet. Keep a food journal of what you are eating so you can see how many calories a day you are consuming. Then cut it by at least 500 a day. You'll lose a pound a week just from that. Then throw in that exercise and you'll be losing 2-3 pounds a week. Good luck. Its hard at first but once you start seeing the results you'll know it was all worth it."

David replied: "There is two things you can do; 1. Buy a couple of buckets with lids at Home Depot. Or go to a restaurant and ask if they can keep two for you instead of throwing them out. Put some water in each. When you wake up, walk up the stairs and down the stairs holding the buckets. Before you go to bed, do the stairs again. Once a week, add a bit more water to the buckets. As you get better at this, increase the number of times you walk up the stairs from once in the morning, once at night, to twice in the morning, twice at night. Then three times, etc. Now for the sore muscles in your neck and back. Stand in your kitchen, facing the counter top. Hands on the counter top. Squat down slowly, go up slowly. Do 10 times. Do once a day. Step back a bit; hands on the edge of the counter top. Do pushups from the counter top. 10 times. Do once a day. While standing back, put one foot back, firmly on the floor. Move forward, stretching the calf in the back of your leg set back. Do 10 times. Then reverse to the other foot, 10 times again. FEEL the calf muscle stretch. The 45 minute thing is not true, but don't over 60 minutes at a time. Do 5-10 minutes of cardio to warm up, then do your weight training. Do 30 to 60 minutes more of cardio, then go home. I became really emotional and suicidal on this drug and I stopped taking it and I felt better. I now take Butalbital for my migraines when they come on and that works much better. And the best part is I do not have to take it EVERY DAY. Everyone I know who has been on that drug has had very interesting side effects from dizziness to passing out to thoughts of suicide to depression. Does anyone take Topamax? Migraine Treatment? I am losing insurance at the end of the month and need treatment for migraines. I can't take triptans because of high blood pressure. I have been taking topamax for almost two months with no result. I suffer almost everyday with one or two migraines. I had a baby two months ago and was diagnosed with pregnancy induced migraines because I never suffered with them before. I don't know how much longer I can go with feeling like this and properly taking care of my baby. Any advise for what to do?

It sometimes takes longer to works (like three or four months. I know, what a pain in the ***, right?) Have you tried propranalol? Its a beta blocker, and normally used for high blood pressure, but it also helps with migraines. Also, you might want to try acupuncture or acupressure. Acupuncture isn't very expensive, and it can really help. So sorry about your pain. Good luck!"

dbgyog replied: "Trish pl see what suits you. If you are in cold country use all warm things. Pl try cold water bath and observe if in hot country, if pain increases use warm. If you have cough/cold body hot water bath will help. Massage and exercise in front of morning sun is good thing, pl try. Pl try simple acupressure given below for immediate relief.
