Is dark green diarrhea and stomach pain associated with Trazodone? I went to the doctor last week, and she prescribed me Trazodone to help me sleep. It wasn't until just a few days ago I started having stomach pain, like someone was stabbing me, and dark green diarrhea, 99% liquid. I looked at different websites and haven't been able to link the two, so I was wondering if anyone would know?
mj69catz replied: "Well, I see the diarrhea, but the two may not have a link.
Color on diarrhea (or any bowel movement) can come from other things, such as food you ate. For example, when I drink grape Crystal Light, I get green BMs all the time. You could be looking at a combination of foods and some colorant from the pills.
However, if you are having diarrhea, you should contact your doctor tomorrow."
Allyson replied: "It could be a side effect of the Trazodone. Contact your doctor and talk to her about this."

on trazodone, got chest pain, doc/nurses on here today? i have been talking trazodone 100mg daily for about 3 weeks.
over the past 2 weeks but especially the past week im havin chest pain. its like a sharp pain around the heart area on both the left and right side of my chest. sometimes the pain is so bad im short of breathe but im not gasping (if that makes sense?)
the pains last for a couple of minutes then go away. but over the past week they have been more often ...
im waiting on the doctor calling me back (been waiting for 4.5 hours now, and the surgery is nearly closing...)
i dont wanna call them back, but if i dont hear from them should i call nhs24?
anyone experienced this before? its NOT anxiety!!
if it helps ... im 24 and female
Outsider replied: "Call NHS 24!! This might be connected to your meds, but it could be coincidental... you might be having angina attacks."
Rhianna replied: "Call the surgery back now and ask to speak to the GP- ask him to advise on the next course of action. To be honest, your symptoms really need evaluating in hospital. Specially as your chest pains are accompanied by shortness of breath. Ask your GP is you can pop along to the surgery- he should at least do an ECG.
Trazodone is prescribed for depression and anxiety- your symptoms could be anxiety related- however a rare side effect of Tricylic antidepressants can be cardiovascular side-effects such as changes in ECG ,arrhythmia's, tachycardia and syncope (more common with high doses), what dose are you taking?
You need to really be evaluated and if your GP isn't available then go to A&E this evening. Don't panic, if this has been going on for a few weeks, then it is unlikely that anything serious is going to happen all of a sudden, however this does need evaluating. Take your medication to the hospital with you, so they can see what you are taking."

mr logical ... im talking about my family doctor ... surgery is not even relivent.
oh if it helps, im 24 and female
Yahoo X replied: "stop taking them and call your regular doctor,, you don't HAVE to contact the surgeon about a drug reaction,,, it's far better than asking strangers on Yahoo.
If you are having chest pains like that,, and have been,, why would you possibly waste time asking here?? Doctors have better things to do than hang out on Yahoo at 9am,, and 99% of the people that claim to be nurses or whatever live in their parents basements and in their mind is the only place they are in the medical field
Or look up the side effects at,, it will take you far less time than what it took you to type here to find an answer,, and it will be from REAL medical professions,, not the cyber wanna be kind
PS well most doctor that perform surgeries like you said you've waited for 4.5 hours are called surgeons not GP. LOL
whoops,, you're one of the ones living in the basement aren't you!!"

Paxil and Trazodone - are they used for pain relief? I have Crohn's disease. It's pretty close to being as bad as it can get, and I've had 7 surgeries over the past year and a half. I still have almost constant problems with fistulas, infections, etc. etc. So, as a result of all that, I've been in, and continue to be in a good deal of pain. I've run the gamut through pain meds, and now, I find that, due to the tolerance I've developed, a somewhat large dose of oxycodone works fairly well (45mg/4x a day).
I went to a pain management clinic today and met with a new Dr, and he got on my case about taking the amount that I do. He wants me to begin cutting back and prescribed Paxil and Trazodone to replace the oxycodone. I told him I thought those were anti-depressants, and he disagreed, saying they were used for pain management. Now, nothing I've read says anything like that, so I'm wondering if he's just stringing me along because he doesn't like handing out narcotics. Some pain Dr he is.
Anyone have any thoughts?
smotheredbyidiots replied: "paxil is for depression. And not a good pill at that. I was on paxil and it made me insane. And i dont mean I was off blaance. i went insane. I ended up taking over 100 pain killers and my mother found me dead. Paxil is for a certain kind of person, my doctor didnt follow up on me when taking this med, and since i was just an 18 yr old kid i didnt know what was going on with me. I just went insane and ruined all of my relationships, and if it werent for the hospital id still be dead..."
yellow replied: "Hmm that's interesting. I'm a certified counselor and I've never heard of that.... It's possible he's concerned about an addiction taking place and seeing if your pain could be caused by something mentally/psychiatrically. What you should do is start documenting your pain on a level of 1-10 ever couple of hours for about a month with your new pre ions. That way you have some proof for your DR. that you've given it a try and that you're being conscious about your pain and not making generalized statements about it. However, I will be asking around about this as if it's true I should be seeing a lot more patients with this kind of treatment."
Chad Childers replied: "i use to take trazadone to help me sleep i hope you get better =["
Chrissy replied: "I think there actually has been some research on serotonin levels and pain tolerance. Paxil is an SSRI so it helps serotonin stay in active for longer. Hes probably hoping that will increase your pain tolerance. He probably should have explained that to you though if it was his plan. Try searching for pain tolerance and serotonin in google scholar and see if anything comes up.... and dont worry it has nothing to do with depression. the same chemical can have many different effects on the brain."
huntsvillewitch replied: "I had a doctor that wanted to do the same thing. In theory, pain makes you depressed. Depression can cause more pain. So if you take out the depression part of it, your pain issues will go away. (This is what my doctor told me) It didn't work for me, but whatever. I was put on Lexapro. It did help with my anxiety problems and I did sleep better, but it did nothing for the pain. I think it sounds insane to take someone off of oxycodone and put them on Paxil. I mom is on Paxil and she still gets migraines everyday."
Chas replied: "Sometimes doctors give both for chronic nerve type pain. I've been on both of them in the past but they didn't work very well for me. Here are a few links that may help you."
Has anyone taken the drug Trazodone and suffered any side effects? If so,what were your side effects?I was put on Trazodone by my doctor last week for insomnia and headaches and I have been having bone pain.Has any of you had bone pain while taking this med?
Crazy88s replied: "Yeah I had a little bone pain then they put me on ambien and it works a lot better"
Can I take trazodone and vicodin at the same time? I'm in very bad pain (thus my doctor gave me vicodin) and I can't sleep due to insomnia (thus the trazodone). Is it safe to take both, or do I need to pick one?
Thanos replied: "I too take Trazedone, which does a pretty good job of putting me to sleep. I would think your Vicodin would be for your daytime pain.
Your doctor should have answered you question for you. Call him. If you can't get him, call a reputable drug store like Walgreens or somewhere and ask your question of the pharmacist. Good luck with your pain."
out of Amitrityline and Trazodone, what would be more likely to help with OCD? I'm taking Citalopram which is generic for Celexa right now and have been for about a few weeks. but I also have a little pain in my back. I want to start Trazodone or Amitriptyline because they have been known to help with pain magagment. I have a slight form of OCD and I heard that Trazodone or Amitriptyline could be useful for OCD and certine kinds of pain.
If I were to pick between Trazodone and Amitriptyline, which one would be better to help relieving OCD?
Robin L replied: "I have OCD and my doctor put me on paxil. I am no longer on it but it did help some."
kellieanne h replied: "Fer sure the trazadone.. helps loads.. controls the impulses.. will make you tired for the first couple of weeks tho..."
Snazzlefrazz replied: "This is something that really needs to be discussed between you and your doctor. I know that Trazodone is very rarely used now days as there are much more effective medications with less side-effects. I am not familiar with Amitrityline. I think you should leave it to your doctor and not narrow your options to two. Zoloft has been highly effective in treating my OCD and has very few side-effects. Additionally, Paxil is also used in treating Anxiety disorders, which includes OCD."
La-Te-Da replied: "Trazadone makes you very sleepy and Celexa has varying results. Paxil can work but has side effects that can be upseting. (nightmares, sexual side effects) Have you talked about taking Prozac? It comes in a genreic form now and is pretty amzing in the patients I have seen. Just make sure that if you are going to take Prozac that you start on a very low dose andgradually increase it....5mg....to 10mg....to 15 mg..etc. Otherwise you will have severe side effects!! Good luck!"
Patti C replied: "I took Amitriptyline was migraine prevention and it did great for pain relief too. I no longer need it, so I don't take it any longer. I did have weight gain with it though.
I now take Trazodone to help with my depression and sleep deprivation. It sure doesn't help with the pain but does help with everything else. No bad side effects either.
I am not sure about OCD; I think I am borderline and the amitriptyline sure didn't help that."
embroidery fan replied: "Check with your psychiatrist!"
Can Trazodone be used as a form of date rape? With Alcohol? What if you think you have taken it and have some of the symptoms a day later like headache, muscle pain, shakes and delieria? How long will it take to leave your system? Any nurses around who can answer any of these or people taking Trazodone?
J D replied: "Trazodone and Alcohol don't mix with each other, but Trazodone and Alcohol are both depressants. Enough alcohol alone can make you pass out, taking trazodone first would just make it happen a little sooner."
Jeff replied: "I'm trying to think, if it would really put you to sleep faster or not. I think it would just make you feel a little more out there."
Can you take Ibuprofen with Trazodone? I suffer from bad period pain sometimes and I also take Trazodone for depression (100mg). Is it safe to take Ibuprofen whilst on this medication?
Thanks.
ChiLady replied: "yes--it's fine to take both at the same time."
Rachelmarie1991 replied: "yes perfectly ok"
any one taking trazodone? does anybody take trazodone my pain management dr prescribed it to me to help me sleep.im scared to try it can anybody tell me the good or bad efects it has.thanks
Wen da lah replied: "I don't have personal experience of this drug, but here is a link that might be able to put your mind at ease.
Good luck."
nora7142@verizon.net replied: "i dont have any bad side effect from it helps me sleep i take it cause im bi polar and my sleep pattern is too irregular"
brutus367 replied: "I have taken it in the past to help with fibromyalgia. It will not hurt you if you take it like the directions say and should help you to relax so that you can sleep better. It will make you drowzy, so don't take it and drive. You can ask your pharmacist about it or you can go to WebMD.com and look up the drug and it will tell you what it is used to treat and how it works. It can't help you if you won't try it. Please try it and if you don't like how it makes you feel talk to your doctor about it and he can try you with something else. Good luck."
angelle_76 replied: "Trazadone is a mild antidepressant and it can make you drowsy this is why it is taken at night and is nothing to be afraid of.
Tramadol is a painkiller and is probably a better drug to be prescribed for pain management this is also nothing to be afraid of.
The final decision to take these medications is yours alone and depends on your level of pain if you can handle the pain without any pain relief than you do not need the meds but if it is getting you down then do not hesitate to take them as they are prescribed for the symptoms you described to specialist.
Tramadol is the better pain reliever and will also aid sleep.
Also have you tried ibruprofen 400mg you can get these over the counter some people find these extremely effective and they are not so strong.
I suffer from fybromyalgia so have some understanding of your symptoms and have taken tramadol and am currently taking 50mg of trazadone at night with no ill effects. Hope this is of some help."
TAMMY K replied: "I have been prescribed trazodone.. Don't be scared.. The only thing really bad I can think of is that it may make you sleep more than the normal amount of hours it depends on what mg you are on. If it is 50 mg i suggest you cut it in 1/4 and try a 1/4 first if that don't help then 1/2 then 3/4 if still not working try the whole thing.. I just know that when i took the whole 50 mg it made me sleep from 10pm to 3pm the next day. I hope it works for you.. thanks hope this helps

rubik c replied: "I have been on this drug for the past 8 years at 100mg. It is a wonderful sleep aid. I do not wake up feeling hung over in the morning either. Two years ago my house burned down and I was woken up by the smell of the smoke. I tell you this to let you know that trazodone does not put you into a deep hypnotic sleep. This year my regular doctor had to go to Iraq, he is in the National Guard. The doctor taking over for him prescribed Lunesta.
Lunesta was $100, not $10, like Trazodone. Additionally, Lunesta, is a hypnotic, which I was not real keen on and it was even effective. After two weeks of sleep deprivation I was back at the the Doctors' office at got a pre ion for trazodone."
